Mad for March Newness

Mad for March Newness

March 22, 2017 • Contributor: Cricut Product Marketing Manager Cortney Haymond

We are so excited for March and everything it brings. Here in Utah, it has brought the sunshine (Goodbye snow!!!), and at Cricut at has brought some awesome new materials to cut with as well as a few other fun things.

Throwback time…

I remember back to when I was in elementary school and everyone had folders and shoes and pencils that had this iridescent quality to them. It was so popular and it was everywhere. It faded as the years have progressed, but we are bringing it back.

Introducing our newest vinyl…

Holographic Vinyl

Well Cricut is adding one more to the collection, Adhesive Stainless Foil in a beautiful brilliant red.

You Asked, We Have Answers: Q&A With The Cricut Product Team

March 7, 2017 • Contributor: Cricut Social Media Specialist Shelby Jones

We are getting so excited for all the amazing new features coming in Design Space 3. We know you're all patiently waiting for the release, so in the meantime, we want to answer as many top questions as we can. Below our product team answers some of the most asked questions about Design Space 3 ...

Why are you coming out with a new color when we need new software?

We have a huge team of engineers working on the next revision of our software - Design Space 3. We have been working for 18 months and we have ambitious goals on the user experience.

The color of a machine is done in factories and these are driven by trends and user demand. There are over 2-3 million projects being done every month and many of those users are looking for new colors to upgrade.

The software is done by a software team and is a major effort. There are over 1200 users externally using Design Space 3. And we are polishing up the experience.

We also plan to do a sneak peek of Design Space 3 during the HSN airing. Once we feel that the software really delivers the enhanced experience that we are aiming for, we will launch.

Thanks and we appreciate your patience. (Ashish CEO)

What things are going to be fixed with the new software?

No more flash! That means no having to go in and update your flash plug in! We know - we are excited too!

Product Search - the ability to search projects within Design Space and Make It Now projects. Your dream project just got a whole lot easier to find!

No more tabs! Everything you need is already on your canvas screen. Ain’t nobody got time for searching through tabs - spend your time creating instead!

Ps - did we mention there will be a sneak peak of the new software on HSN? Viewing party anyone? (Cortney Haymond Product Marketing Manager)

Why do you only ship to US & Canada and why won’t Design Space subscriptions work outside the US and Canada?

Cricut currently services customers through retail partners in the US, Canadian and UK markets. We have been selectively adding other English-speaking countries around the world and are working to enable our subscription in those markets.

We are committed to helping our customers in current markets lead creative lives and will add additional countries when we can deliver the same experience to them. (Dale Pistilli VP of Marketing)

Will the new software work with my current machine?

The new updated Design Space will have the same machine capabilities as the current machine. So for anyone who has an Explore, Explore one, Explore Air, or Explore Air 2 Design Space will work with your machine.

I know some of you may be wondering whether or not you have to purchase a new machine to use the software, if you have a machine in the Explore family you do not. However just like the current Design Space the update will not work with machines that are older than the original Explore. So if you have been looking for a reason the upgrade, let me tell you, this update to Design Space is just the reason you have been searching for. (Product Marketing Manager Cortney Haymond)

Did we read your mind? Were these the questions you had? Which was your top question that you had?

Paper Floral Treatments

Tips & Tricks for Paper Floral Treatments (& A Surprise!)

March 2, 2017 • Contributor: Cricut Marketing Director Tiffany Isbell

Our amazing design team just WOWed me with two huge floral projects. They took my breath away! I asked them about all the unique methods put into making it look so beautiful, and I’m going to give you a few of their awesome techniques that I never knew were possible before!

1. Inking

Inking

By using a small sponge with an ink pad, they were able to add bigger natural bang to this flower! The ink was used on the tips of the petals as well as the center.

2. Glitter Spray

Glitter Spray

Once they put the middle of the flower together, they added some amazing sparkle! Other alternative ideas to capture this essence would be to use glitter paper, glitter dip the flower parts, or even a thicker glitter glue.

3. Rhinestones

Rhinestones

Rhinestones, pearls, or buttons – oh my! There are so many different things you can use to spice up the center.  This flower was inked and then had a rhinestone glued to the center for a slight sparkle.

4. Painting

Painting

Paint on the paper can really add a realistic touch to your flowers.

5. High-contrast paper colors

Colors

High-contrast paper colors. Using colors that pop against each other can also make a more dramatic impact to your flowers.

After all these magical tips, I’m sure your next question is what did it turn out looking like? Tune in to HSN on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 starting at 12am ET to see the entire project live! Visit our Facebook page for additional times to tune in.

We’ve Got a Font Fetish

January 25, 2017 • Contributor: Cricut Product Marketing Manager Cortney Haymond

One Font, Two Font, Red Font, Blue Font…

Okay, we all have that small secret thing that we obsess over. Something that we are constantly looking for or at. For instance, my husband’s is cars and car parts. For me, it’s fonts.

  • Small Fonts
  • Big Fonts
  • Plain Fonts
  • Fancy Fonts

I love them all. They each have their own personality and style. I can say the same thing several different ways depending on the font I use.

Hello Beautiful Font Image

See what I mean? You can say it softly, boldly, sassily, lovingly or many other ways. Hence why I am crazy about Cricut Design Space. No matter how I want to say something, they have a font to match and they are continually adding more.

Fabulous Fonts

My favorite fonts this month are:

  • Loop-Di-Loop, this one is kind of curly and sassy. It makes me think of ringlets and bubblegum (I never said it was a great combo, that’s just what I think of.)
  • Pen and Ink has a more sophisticated look. It seems like something you would use for special occasions or just because you want to be fancy.
  • Kyden reminds me of the handwriting I always wished I had and now I do. (Shh, don’t tell anyone. I just write everything via my Cricut.)
  • Confetti + Sprinkles is just downright crazy which is what makes it so awesome. It literally is a party in a font.

Last, but by no means least, our newest one…*Drumroll Please*

Neon Lights Font Image

Neon Lights is the newest addition to the Cricut Font Family and we couldn’t be happier. This boldly electric font is just the type of uniqueness you were looking for this New Year. But wait there’s more…

Neon Lights is the first in a long line of fonts that will be hitting Cricut Design Space this year. You will have to check back each month to see whether we have released one or many. All I can say right now is that they are going to be AMAZING!

Finding Fonts

I honestly can say I have never met a font I didn’t like, and that holds true for all of the Cricut fonts. One question I get asked a lot is “How do I change my fonts in Design Space?” I have got your answer right here.

It is actually pretty simple. After you have added your text by clicking “Add Text” on the left hand side of your screen, you will head over the right side and click edit.

DS Image

After you have clicked the edit tab (make sure your text is selected) you will see three drop down menus. The middle one has all the fonts your heart could desire.

Hello Beautiful Font Image 1

From there all you have to do is scroll through and select your favorite font.

Hello Beautiful Image 2

And there you have it. Pretty simple right?

Were any of my favorite fonts your favorite as well? I would love to hear what your favorite type of font is. Comment below and tell me how much of a font fetish you have.

Now go make something, you crazy craft animal you!

Cuttlebug, Glitter, & Bags, Oh My!

January 11, 2017 • Contributor: Cricut Product Marketing Manager Cortney Haymond

Hey Everyone, welcome to 2017. I am so excited to start this year off by telling you about my favorite new items.

A Match Made in Heaven

First off our new Cuttlebug. I will be the first to admit that the Cuttlebug confused me. However, after seeing it in action, and seeing what it could do, I became obsessed. I am not even joking, I had to have one. Now I use it all the time. So the fact that I can now match my Cuttlebug to my Cricut Explore Air 2 is well… okay let’s just get real. I love matching items, I think they are adorable, and if they exist I buy them (much to my husband’s dismay).

More Matching!

Oh the tools… again with the matching. They are adorable!!! I mean seriously how could you honestly say no to tools that one, solve all of your crafting needs and two, match your machine.

Mint Tool Set

All That Sparkles

Okay, moving on. Another one of my favorite items this month is our new Glitter Tape. Not to add to the whole “Girls love things that sparkle,” stereotype, but…I LOVE THINGS THAT SPARKLE. I can’t get enough of it. We released a Glitter Tape sampler that you can find in a retail craft store near year or you can find it and the 12 other individual colors on Cricut.com. My favorite colors are the Teal and the Sapphire Blue.

Neat Bags

Now, I actually loved everything that we released this month, but I am just going to talk about one more.

The bags!!!

I love these bags!

The Shoulder Bag, the Machine Tote, and the Rolling Tote. I have two words… Organizational Heaven *Cue heavenly music*...

If you are anything like me your craft room is frequently in a state of chaos. Not in the “I never clean any of this up chaos,” but rather the “where do I put everything in this tiny room” chaos. These bags are the answer. Seriously though, I can put my materials, mats, tools, pens, and my Cuttlebug, just in the Rolling Tote alone.

Cricut Bags

The other thing I love about these bags is that they are portable. If my friend decides to have a last minute craft night at her house (it happens a lot), I can just grab the bag that is full of supplies and go. Rather than finding a bunch of plastic bags to fit everything I want to bring, which what I have been doing. I can roll the bag into a closet for more floor space, or into the middle of the floor for more closet space. It’s the best!

Biggest win for these bags…They look way better than those plastic bins that I seem to keep accumulating in the corners of my craft room to hold everything.

Now you can see why they are my favorite right? I would love to hear what your favorites Cricut things are! Leave a comment below and let me know if you have a favorite item or go to project!
